### Detailed Overview

## Whiplash: A Whip-Like Injury With a Wide Range of Symptoms

Whiplash happens when the neck is suddenly or violently jolted in one direction and then another — most often in a motor vehicle collision, but also from falls, sports injuries, or workplace incidents. Because so many factors influence the outcome (impact direction, vehicle speeds, your age, sex, and physical condition), no two whiplash injuries look exactly the same.

That variability is part of what makes whiplash confusing for patients. Symptoms can include neck pain, headaches, fatigue, upper back and shoulder pain, cognitive changes, and even low back pain — and they frequently don't show up right away, sometimes taking weeks or months to fully present. Arm pain and heaviness may come from nerve compression related to a disc injury, or more commonly, from pain that is "referred" from elsewhere in the neck. Sleep disturbance, irritability, and difficulty concentrating are also common and can stem from pain itself, medication, or the injury's broader impact on your routine.

Because whiplash symptoms are so individual, an accurate initial assessment is what makes the treatment plan work.

### What Happens at Your First Visit

1. **Assessment** — We review how the injury happened and examine your neck, posture, and nervous system for the specific pattern of your whiplash.
2. **Diagnosis & Plan** — Objective documentation (X-rays, DynaROM motion testing where appropriate) supports a clear plan tailored to your symptoms.
3. **Treatment Begins** — Gentle chiropractic care and soft tissue therapy begin addressing pain and restoring motion from the first visit.

If your whiplash is from a car accident, we bill directly under **Alberta Section B** so approved care costs you nothing out of pocket.
